I listened to the most wonderful podcast this morning; an interview with Gentry Lee who just retired after 50 years at JPL, with his fingers in pretty much every space mission you can think of. @Cyclist@mastodon.scot @helenclayton@mas.to Yay Stroud! I grew up in that area :-) Although I know Thrupp is a tiny locality, but 540 votes really doesn’t seem that many…! I remember back in the day, the people of Stroud engaged in a sit-in; people literally lived in the trees of Stratford Park when they were in danger of being chopped down. The Green movement has always been strong in the area.

Hay! Straw! Donkeys eat it raw! Chew it into little bits and spit it on the floor! Anyone else remember saying this in their childhood? It popped into my head the other day but none of my British friends knew it. Americans sure as hell didn’t. Meanwhile, I was in the supermarket yesterday in line to check out. The man in front of me had loads of flowers. He took one flower and gave it to the kid in the cart in front of him. Made us all smile. Happy Saturday…

@johncarlosbaez@mathstodon.xyz Yeah; but most people just don’t know. They see them in a garden center and think “hey that would be nice in my yard” and the thing is set up for who-knows-what latitude. I found a home shop in Austin once importing (admittedly very nice) ones from the UK: they were all set for 52° and Austin is 30°… I emailed the shop, and they disappeared after that ;-)
